We take the security at our school seriously and understand the importance of being prepared for different types of crisis situations.  We strive to provide a safe and secure environment for our students and staff.  We pray every day for God's protection over our students, staff and facility.

Building Security

We have cameras located inside and outside our building.  Our doors are locked and can only be accessed by using a security code to open.   Parents will be issued a 4-digit code to enter the building to drop off and pick up their child.  Please do not share this code with any other person. If you have someone who picks up your child regularly, please ask the office to issue them a code.   In order to have other people pick up or drop your child off, they must be listed in your Family Portal System (Facts).  If you have a person pick up your child who is not listed in our system, you must send a written notice to inform us.

There may be times when you are exiting the building and may see another person trying to enter the building. Please do not open the door for them.  Let them enter their own security code to enter.  Be attentive and report any unusual observations or occurrences around or near our school.

Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan

North Carolina requires that schools have an Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan in place.  These plans are updated annually and our staff participates in yearly training.  We work directly with Kitty Hawk Fire and Police Departments to ensure the safety of our facility. All of our staff at BCA are trained in CPR and First Aid.  Our teachers and staff are equipped with walkie talkies and security panic buttons to use in the event of emergencies.

Emergency drills are an important part of our security. We perform several drills during the school year.  Some are announced and some are unannounced.

  • Fire drills are performed monthly
  • Shelter in place drills are performed quarterly
  • Lock down drills are performed quarterly
  • Tornado drills are performed quarterly

In the event there is an actual emergency, parents will be notified in several different ways depending on the emergency.  We may use Class DoJo, Parent Alert (which is a text), or by phoning the parents.  It is crucial for parents to stay alert to all announcements related to safety, security drills, inclement weather warnings and any related early dismissals. Please keep your personal information current by updating your Family Portal as necessary.

During an emergency:

  • Do not call the office unnecessarily for status updates. We may need to use our phones for communication with our local authorities.
  • Do not attempt to call faculty or staff who may be friends to gain more information.
  • Do not attempt to intervene in the process of managing the situation.
  • You will be notified as to when and where you can pick up your child.

We appreciate everyone's help in keeping our school as safe and secure as possible.  If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.
